About Us: The Meal is the Main Feature

For years, our lives were about the final cut, the perfect layout, the polished final product. As a photographer, I spent my days capturing other people’s perfect moments. As a graphic designer, Julian built beautiful worlds for clients. We were a great creative team, but the art we made was never for us. Our own life felt like the rough draft we never had time to edit.

Our kitchen was where we came to unplug from all that. It wasn’t about creating something flawless. It was about the messy, unedited, and beautiful process of making something just for ourselves.

Hi, I’m Iris, and I’m 31. The guy who is my favorite art director in every project is my husband, Julian, who is 33. Welcome to Magazine Meal, our personal journal about making your own life the feature story.

We used to be intimidated by the glossy pages of food magazines. Everything looked so perfect, so unattainable. But then we realized we had it all wrong. The point wasn’t to replicate a flawless photo. The point was to make a meal so good, so full of story and connection, that it deserved to be the main feature of our day.

Why “Magazine Meal”?

The name is our philosophy. We decided to treat our weeknight dinners like the cover stories of our own personal magazine. A “Magazine Meal” isn’t about perfection; it’s about intention. It’s a meal that’s interesting, vibrant, and worthy of your full attention. It’s the headline of your evening.

This blog is our monthly issue, and every recipe is a feature article. We’re not just sharing instructions; we’re sharing the art direction, the lighting notes, and the story behind the “shoot.” We are the editors, stylists, and publishers of our own delicious life, and we want to show you how to be, too.

We created this space for fellow creatives, for anyone tired of chasing perfection, and for everyone who wants to learn how to be the editor-in-chief of their own life, starting in the kitchen.

Meet the Editors

Julian (33): The Art Director. He’s the visionary, the one who sees the big picture. He dreams up the flavor palettes and concepts the overall “feel” of every meal.

Iris (31): The Photo Editor & Writer. That’s me. I capture the moments, test the concepts, and write the story that brings Julian’s vision to the page for you to read.

Thank you for flipping through our pages. We hope you find a story you want to create for yourself.

Yours in the making,

Iris & Julian
