Bake this truly moist banana bread recipe bursting with sweet banana flavor. This simple, no-fuss recipe is perfect for beginners and guarantees a tender crumb every time you bake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 very ripe large bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas thoroughly with a fork until mostly smooth.
  3. Pour the melted butter into the mashed bananas and stir to combine.
  4. Add the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract to the banana mixture. Mix well until everything is incorporated.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix; a few streaks of flour are fine. This is your one-bowl step!
  7. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan.
  8. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use bananas that are heavily spotted or almost black for the best, sweetest flavor in your homemade banana bread.
  • If you want a chocolate chip banana bread variation, fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips after combining the wet and dry ingredients.
  • For a cinnamon swirl bread effect, reserve 1/4 cup of the batter, mix it with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, then gently swirl it over the top of the main batter before baking.
