Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for strawberries)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for cream)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for cream)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and white sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  4. In a small bowl, gently toss the sliced strawberries with the 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Let them sit for about 10-15 minutes to macerate.
  5. While the strawberries are macerating, prepare the whipped cream. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  6. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  7. Pour about 1/2 cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  8. Serve the waffles warm, topped generously with the macerated strawberries and a dollop of fresh whipped cream.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cinnamon to the waffle batter.
  • If you prefer a less sweet waffle, reduce the sugar in the batter.
  • Ensure your heavy cream is very cold for the best whipped cream results.
