Ingredients
Scale
1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1-3 Thai chilies, thinly sliced (adjust to your spice preference)
1/2 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
1/4 cup sliced red onion
1/4 cup sliced bell pepper (any color)
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon sugar
Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Toss to coat the beef evenly. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes.
Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
Add the minced garlic and sliced Thai chilies to the hot oil. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the marinated beef to the wok. Spread it out in a single layer and let it cook undisturbed for about 1 minute to get a good sear.
Stir-fry the beef, breaking it up as it cooks, until it’s mostly browned.
Add the sliced red onion and bell pepper to the wok. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
In a small bowl, whisk together the water and sugar. Pour this mixture into the wok.
Add the fresh Thai basil leaves and stir-fry for another 30 seconds to 1 minute, just until the basil wilts.
Remove from heat and serve immediately over cooked rice.
Notes
For an even quicker meal, you can buy pre-sliced beef.
Adjust the amount of Thai chilies to control the heat level.
If you can’t find Thai basil, regular basil can be used, but the flavor will be different.
