Ingredients
Scale
1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
2 tablespoons olive oil
8 ounces smoked salmon, thinly sliced
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
2 tablespoons capers, drained
1 lemon, zested and juiced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
4 ounces goat cheese, softened
2 tablespoons chives, chopped
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Brush both sides of the baguette slices lightly with olive oil.
Bake the bread slices for 8 to 10 minutes, turning once, until they are lightly golden and crisp. Set aside to cool.
Prepare Topping 1 (Classic): In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, half of the chopped dill, and half of the capers.
Prepare Topping 2 (Tangy): In a separate bowl, combine the softened goat cheese with the lemon zest and half of the chopped chives.
Prepare Topping 3 (Onion Relish): Mix the thinly sliced red onion with the lemon juice. Let it sit for 5 minutes to slightly soften the onion flavor.
Assemble the crostini: Spread a layer of cream cheese mixture onto half of the toasted bread slices. Top each with a small piece of smoked salmon and a sprinkle of remaining capers.
Spread a layer of goat cheese mixture onto the remaining bread slices. Top each with a small piece of smoked salmon and a sprinkle of remaining chives.
Arrange the finished crostini on a platter. Place small piles of the lemon-soaked red onion on top of some pieces for an optional garnish.
Serve immediately or cover and chill for up to 2 hours before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can lightly toast the baguette slices in a pan with butter instead of olive oil.
If you do not have fresh dill, use 1 teaspoon of dried dill in the cream cheese mixture.
You can substitute thinly sliced cucumber for the red onion if you prefer a milder flavor profile.
