Ingredients
Scale
1 cup rolled oats
2 cups water or milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon butter or oil
1 large egg
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
Combine oats, water or milk, salt, and pepper in a saucepan.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
While the oatmeal is cooking, heat butter or oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Crack the egg into the skillet and cook to your preference (sunny-side up, over-easy, etc.).
Pour the cooked oatmeal into a bowl.
Top the oatmeal with the fried egg and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. The heat from the oatmeal will melt the cheese.
Serve immediately.
Notes
You can use any milk of your choice (dairy or non-dairy).
Add other seasonings like garlic powder or onion powder to the oatmeal for extra flavor.
Feel free to add other toppings like avocado, hot sauce, or bacon bits.
