- 4 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 4 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 3 Tablespoons milk
- 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 Tablespoon chocolate chips (optional)
- In a microwave-safe mug (about 10-12 oz), whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until combined.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
- Mix well with a fork until the batter is smooth and no dry pockets remain. Do not overmix.
- Stir in the chocolate chips, if using.
- Place the mug in the microwave. Cook on high power for 60 to 90 seconds. Cooking time varies by microwave wattage. Start checking at 60 seconds.
- The cake is done when the top looks set but the center is still slightly soft.
- Let cool for one minute before eating directly from the mug.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, substitute milk with coffee.
- If your cake seems dry, reduce the cooking time by 10 seconds next time.
- Add a spoonful of peanut butter to the center of the batter before microwaving for a molten center.
