Ingredients
Scale
1 inch piece fresh ginger, thinly sliced or grated
1 cup water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 to 2 teaspoons honey (adjust to taste)
Instructions
Place the sliced or grated ginger in a small saucepan with the water.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Longer simmering results in a stronger ginger flavor.
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Strain the liquid into a mug, discarding the ginger pieces.
Stir in the fresh lemon juice and honey until dissolved.
Taste and add more honey if you prefer it sweeter.
Notes
For a stronger immune boost, add a small pinch of turmeric powder during simmering.
If you want to make a larger batch, simmer the ginger in a larger volume of water, then store the concentrated liquid in the refrigerator for up to one week. Dilute with hot water when serving.
Use fresh ginger for the best flavor and potency. Dried ginger powder will require less simmering time but offers a different taste profile.
