Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • For the Glaze:
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add granulated sugar, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. While the dough rises, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Punch down the risen dough. Roll it out into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  8. Spread the melted butter over the dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over the butter.
  9. Roll the dough up tightly from the long side. Cut the roll into 8-10 equal pieces.
  10. Grease a 10-inch cast-iron skillet. Arrange the cinnamon roll pieces snugly in the skillet.
  11. Cover the skillet and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  12. Preheat your oven to 350F.
  13. Bake for 25-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze. Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  15. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Beat until combined.
  16. Add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the glaze reaches your desired consistency.
  17. Let the cinnamon rolls cool slightly before spreading the glaze over them.

Notes

  • Ensure your milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast.
  • A cast-iron skillet provides even heating for a perfectly baked cinnamon roll.
  • Adjust the amount of milk in the glaze for your preferred thickness.
