Bake these soft, buttery Cinnamon Sugar Snowball Cookies. They feature a simple, crumbly texture and are coated in a sweet cinnamon sugar mixture, making them a perfect, easy holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, for rolling (optional, for initial dusting)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, for coating
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon, for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and 1/2 cup granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. This is the base for your buttery cookies.
  3. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined into a soft dough. Do not overmix.
  5. Roll the dough into small, uniform balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are barely set and light golden. The cookies should remain pale.
  7. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the cookies cool, prepare the coating. In a shallow dish, mix the 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon thoroughly.
  9. If you want an extra layer, you can lightly dust the cooled cookies with powdered sugar first. Then, roll each cooled cookie ball generously in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  10. Place the finished Cinnamon Sugar Snowball Cookies on a clean sheet of parchment paper to set before serving or storing.

Notes

  • For the best melt-in-your-mouth texture, make sure your butter is truly softened, not melted.
  • If you prefer a slightly nuttier flavor without using actual nuts, you can substitute 1/4 cup of the flour with finely ground rolled oats.
  • Store these festive cinnamon dessert bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
