Learn how to make perfectly sweet, crunchy, and addictive homemade glazed pecans on the stovetop. This quick recipe is ideal for snacking, topping salads, or creating easy homemade gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Place the pecan halves in a medium, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Toast the pecans for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until they smell fragrant. Remove the pecans from the skillet and set them aside.
  2. In the same skillet, combine the water, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir the mixture constantly over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Continue to cook the sugar mixture without stirring until it reaches a light amber color, about 4 to 6 minutes. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  4. Immediately add the toasted pecans to the caramel mixture. Stir quickly and constantly until all the pecans are fully coated with the glaze.
  5. Quickly pour the coated pecans onto a sheet of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Spread them into a single layer using a spatula.
  6. Let the pecans cool completely, about 15 to 20 minutes, until the glaze hardens and they become crunchy. Break apart any large clusters.
  7. Store your crunchy sweet pecans in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • For an old fashioned candied pecans flavor, you can add a tiny pinch of nutmeg along with the cinnamon.
  • If you prefer an oven baked candied nuts method, spread the coated pecans on a baking sheet and bake at 300°F for 10 minutes, then cool completely.
  • These make fantastic gourmet pecan topping for cheese boards or holiday treats.
