Make crispy, flavorful garlic Parmesan chicken wings in your air fryer. This recipe delivers tender meat and crisp skin without deep frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispiness.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the dry wings with baking powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C) for 5 minutes.
  4. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd; work in batches if necessary.
  5. Air fry for 18 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through the cooking time.
  6. Increase the air fryer temperature to 400°F (200°C) and cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the skin is golden brown and very crisp.
  7. While the wings finish cooking, prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, and half of the chopped parsley.
  8. Remove the cooked wings from the air fryer and place them in a large, clean bowl.
  9. Pour the garlic butter mixture over the hot wings and toss to coat them evenly.
  10. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the sauced wings and toss gently until the cheese adheres.
  11. Serve immediately, garnished with the remaining fresh parsley.

Notes

  • Do not skip drying the wings thoroughly; excess moisture prevents crisping.
  • Baking powder helps raise the skin pH, leading to a crispier exterior.
  • Toss the wings in the sauce and cheese *after* they are fully cooked to prevent the cheese from burning during the air frying process.
  • If your Parmesan cheese is coarsely grated, it may burn faster; use finely grated cheese for better coating.
